This online course is designed for Tribal Court Administrators, Tribal Court Managers, and Tribal Court Judges.  The Tribal Court Administration and Management Series- Level 3 course is the final of a three-part series. Each course is offered over 2 days, 5 hours each day.  Courses begin at  9 am PST.

Personnel Management

After this session, you will be able to:

 

  • Define your management style;
  • Explain how to combat morale issues;
  • Develop a plan to deal with conflict and negativity among your staff;
  • Plan for receiving training on supervisory skills; and
  • Analyze your court’s personnel manual, policies, and procedures.

 

Toolkit for a Successful Court Administrator or Court Manager

After this session, you will be able to:

 

  • Conduct an effective staff meeting;
  • Accept employee feedback to improve performance;
  • Create policies and protocols for employee discipline;
  • Create a plan, with your staff, to solve conflict and problems together; and
  • Describe how to delegate appropriately and effectively.

 

Analyzing Court Statistics

After this session, you will be able to:

 

  • Identify what you should be looking for in your statistics;
  • Describe how you can use the trends you identify;
  • Determine your budgetary needs; and
  • Develop an effective reporting style.

 

Managing Special Support Services

After this session, you will be able to:

 

  • Describe all the Special Support Services in your system;
  • Manage the additional burdens of jury trials and jury management;
  • Discuss how Pre-Trial Services and Probation affect your workflow;
  • Assess how your court deals with attorneys, lay advocates and the Bar;
  • Identify how Law Enforcement or Security liaise with the court; and
  • Define how you handle public relations.

 

Planning for the Future

After this session, you will be able to:

 

  • Recognize the benefit of creating a Mission or Vision statement along with the commitment to embodying the values and objectives in those statements;
  • Explain the process of strategic planning;
  • Identify one area that needs immediate attention at your court;
  • Design a strategic plan to address that issue;
  • Create an operational plan to map out how you will tackle that issue.
